Bank of Birch Tree is Birch Tree's oldest and only banking institution. Charles Bowden, father of D.C. Bowden) was a founding member of the bank in its original charter and built the downtown bank building in the early 1900s where the bank remained until July of 1995 when it moved into the present facility, located at the junction of US 60 and FF highway in Birch Tree. In 1927 D.C. Bowden returned from working in Kansas City, MO, to join his father in the banking business. D. Doug Bowden (son of D.C. Bowden) joined the banking business in 1955 after military service and after receiving his college degree. In 1978 Dave Bowden (son of D. Doug Bowden) returned to Birch Tree to work full time in the Bowden Insurance Agency (founded by Charles Bowden in 1908). Over the years D.C. Bowden acquired controlling interest in the Bank of Birch Tree and today the bank continues to be family owned.
